To many mistake global unity as a loss of culture rather than a gain.
People spread this myth in fear of that which they don't know. It's false though, cause in most cases we've seen plenty of evidence to the contrary. As people collect themselves into larger and larger more diversified groups, they don't lose who they are inside. Culture remains strong in an environment of diversity and freedom. It dies in an environment where there isn't diversity and where progress is stunted by separation.
Progressive & Diverse:
European Union
America
Backward & Isolated:
North Korea
Saudi Arabia
Where are you more likely to keep holding on to your culture and religion and to who you are inside?
Certainly not in North Korea. In Saudi Arabia neither. No you'd have luck with it here in America and in Europe. Places of diversity where large groups of people mingled and unified. Sound familiar... yep, it's global unity on a smaller scale.
Here in America we're a melting pot of all different types of cultures. Becoming American didn't make us any less of who we were, but rather made us more. The same happened in Europe with the European Union. Now we're seeing it in the African Nations regionally unifying. People didn't stop being who they were, they didn't lose their cultures, they merely gained a lot! Now people could seize more opportunity, sometimes travel without passports and otherwise increase their well being.
Even on a smaller level it occurs too, which person stops being a New Yorker or a Southerner just because they're also American? It doesn't work that way, because culture is tied with who we are as humans. In all cases where global unity was seriously undertaken on a scale where freedom and progress also were included we've seen nothing but success. This doesn't mean that there wouldn't be some growing pains, the European Union is a perfect example of initial growing pains when unifying large groups of people and multiple regions at once.
So, what have we got to lose? Really? Nothing.
Please speak for global unity and help us dispel the many myths!
